The Magnum Home: A Pop-Up Exhibition and Three Unmissable Events

the magnum house

This moth, Plinth, Magnum Photos and publisher Thames & Hudson are set to open the doors to The Magnum Home, a brilliant pop-up space that combines show-stopping interior design with inspiring photography from the Magnum archive.

Located in a listed Georgian townhouse, just opposite the British Museum, the show is the culmination of a curatorial collaboration between Enow Eshun, creator of Made You Look: Dandyism and Black Masculinity, and Yinka Ilori, a designer and interior curator whose distinctive style draws on anything from Nigerian parables to London’s markets.

The Magnum Home will house a full-scale exhibition comprised of shots from the Magnum archive titled Just Kids: Magnum Photographers on Youth Culture. Focusing on style, deportment and attitude as key factors in how young people have asserted their personal politics and perspectives on gender, race and social status, the photographs on show document youth culture in Britain and internationally from the 1960s to the present day.

Unifying Yinka and Enow’s disciplines are the rooms which the photographs occupy. Each room in The Magnum Home is an immersive and characterful showcase of bright and playful design, peppered with cultural narratives spanning the past 60 years. Kick back in the library, explore the study and nose around the bedrooms at your own pace, taking in the space as a whole.

In addition to the pop-up space, which is free to visit from 17th – 21st May, Magnum Photos, Plinth and Thames & Hudson will be hosting a trio of exclusive events on the themes the show explores. We recommend booking your spot quickly as tickets for these are flying fast.
