Anyone that knows YGT will know we love a hamper or gift box, especially when it’s filled with a carefully-curated selection of goodies from UK designer-makers. It’s for this reason that Thanks I Love It is our latest brand to know. Founded by friends Danielle Fenton and Sarah Kinsey-Learoyd, this indie business specialises in creating themed boxes containing handmade, ethical and gorgeous gifts. From the The Lush to The Treat box, each selection is tailored to suit somebody you love. Our favourite is The Minimalist, a sleek cardboard box filled with bits and pieces by the likes of our friends Lola Hoad and Melanie Chadwick and special accessories and foodie bits by independent and artisan companies like Mast Brothers and Higher Living.
Sarah and Danielle met eight years ago in Leeds while volunteering for a conservation charity. Shortly after this, Danielle moved into the world of marketing and Sarah continued to work in the voluntary sector, but the pair remained firm friends. In 2015, Sarah moved away from Yorkshire to start married life elsewhere, but she and Danielle kept in touch, sharing their love of gift giving with one another and founding Thanks I Love It together.
‘Gift giving is something we both love to do, and living away from friends and family hasn’t changed that, but it does take more work. It can take days or even weeks of planning to find the perfect present, with busy lives and hundreds of miles getting in the way.’ says Sarah. ‘Thanks I love It was inspired by the changes in our lives, and it reflects who we are as people and as friends. We love to treat each other, but in addition to giving a thoughtful gift that we know the other will love, we put a lot of consideration into the story behind each product; who makes it? Where does it come from? Will that purchase make a difference?’
Sarah and Danielle give a proportion of the company’s profits to charities that do vital work in local communities, so when you buy a gift box from TILI, not only are you supporting the UK designer-makers hand-picked by the founders, but some of the pennies you spend go directly to good causes.
‘We want to support UK businesses from an ethical and environmental perspective, so all of the products in Thanks I Love It gift boxes are UK designed or made, and come from small independent suppliers.’ says Sarah. ‘We’re really proud to be female owned and female led, and we’ve found ourselves working with a lot of female directed businesses in turn.’
Focusing on the stories and processes of the designer-makers behind the gift selections in each box, Thanks I Love It is not only about making people happy with wonderful presents in the post, but building a strong community with creatives and indie businesses in the UK. The company’s #tililoves series shines a spotlight on maker stories so you can get to know the people who make each and every item in TILI’s very special boxes.
