Ready yourselves, London because open studio season is here. We’ve got a whole host of art, publishing and design festivals, workshops and exhibitions in store for you and trust us when we say you won’t find a higher quality of work anywhere else. Wave goodbye to May and the flurry of bank holiday madness and settle into June with style, grace and a new passion for the weekend. It’s happening, one of our very favourite illustrators and all-round badass Laura Callaghan is staging a solo show. This event takes place at KK Outlet on Hoxton Square and is not to be missed. Showcasing her watercolour pieces, original illustrations and even some textile goodness, Aspirational pokes fun at the inspirational quotes peppering newsfeeds across the world. ELCAF WORKSHOP WITH DOMINIC KESTERTON at Hackney Central Library, Hackney

When? Thursday 2nd June 2016 at 2pm – 4pm

How much? Free

As part of the ELCAF Season, the brilliant brains behind the festival are working with Hackney Libraries to run free-drop in workshops with local illustrators and cartoonists. Visit Hackney Central Library to create your own three-step comic strip with Dominic Kesterton. Illustration pro Dominic wil be bringing his specially printed risograph comic panels and some individual risograph shapes for you to create your own comic book characters. Click attending here.

HACKNEY DOWNS OPEN STUDIOS at Hackney Downs Studios, Hackney

Thursday 2nd June 2016 at 6pm

How much? Free

Explore behind closed doors then party with the Hackney Showroom residents. Embark on a journey around the old printworks and discover artists, makers, illustrators, designers, potters, record labels, ice-lolly makers, gin distillers, architects, prop-makers and more. There will be installations, stalls, DJs, projections, food, drinks and dancing from NOT LIKE THAT. TOPOGRAPHY OF MODERN LIFE at 71a, Shoreditch 

When? Thursday 2nd – Saturday 4th June 2016

How much? Free

71a presents a unique showcase of the buildings that shape our lives and give us a sense of place and belonging. The financial crisis has brought to sharp attention the importance of property, not just in this country but worldwide. A collective of photographers explore the meaning of place and home in this new show. From housing developments in Spain to post-industrial British towns, this is a stark look at the topography that surrounds us. Discover more here.

A very special show by Hero of Switzerland where a talented collective take on iconic works of art. Reimagining the fine art cannon with more lols than you’ve probably bargained for, this show promises to be a good one. Do you know your Pollock from your Hockney? STOKE NEWINGTON LITERARY FESTIVAL at various venues, Stoke Newington

Stoke Newington Literary Festival returns for it’s seventh celebration of all things bookish, radical and wise. Browse, discover and attend over a weekend-long extravaganza of books, zines, talks. CLAY COLLECTIVE OPEN STUDIO at Hackney Downs Studio, Hackney

When? Saturday 4th – Sunday 5th June 2016 at 11am – 5pm

Clay Collective is opening its doors for the weekend. Normally closed to the public, the Clay Collective shared studio space will be open to all for browsing, discussion and killahs from the kiln. LONDON PIZZA FESTIVAL at Borough Market, London Bridge

The London Pizza Festival returns to Borough Market. Sip Italian wine and Prosecco while you sample a lunch spread of mouth-watering pizzas and listen to the sweet sounds of the festival DJs. Hackney Record Fair offers Londoners a chance to discover independent music labels, bands and the local DIY scene. Browse rare LPs, cassettes, music ephemera, and vintage hi-fi and pick up a few goodies for your collection. OKIDO’S GIANT GARDEN DRAWING at Stoke Newington Church, Stoke Newington

Part of the Stoke Newington literary Festival. Join in with our favourite kids publication OKIDO Magazine as they create the largest garden drawing ever. A huge collaborative drawing for everyone to work on will be set up inside William Pattern School. A free makers market taking place once a week, this event is one of our favourite London hangouts. Staged at the Old Truman brewery, a Shoreditch institution surrounded by the likes of Rough Trade East, DF Mexico and a host of pop-ups and vintage stores, TLA showcases creative talent from London and beyond. ELCAF MASTERCLASS WITH HATO PRESS AND JAY WRIGHT at Hato Press, Hoxton

Sign up for a Masterclass with Hato Press, together with artist Jay Wright. This one-day specialist workshop will include an introduction to Jay Wright’s drawing and image making practice, as well as printing, book-binding and publishing techniques by Hato Press. PECKHAM PLATFORM PRESS HOUSE: ZINE FAIR at Peckham Platform, Peckham

Launching as part of SLAM Last Fridays, Platform Press House opens its doors to all those interested in zine-making and independent publishing. This event is open to everyone and has been organised by Wendy, the editor of Hanna, which is an online space and zine made by young women, for young women.
