This month, we’re waving a not-so-tearful goodbye to gossamer tees and no sock looks to make way for warm winter gear. This is a happy time, a time without goosebumps or wishing we’d brought a jacket, a time for chunky knits and standing close to radiators. We love to be warm and renounce summer clothes in favour of thick tights and bobble hats. We’re also on the lookout for new ways to keep warm and as ever, great things to do in London. Excitingly enough we’ve discovered a range of events hosted by UNIQLO and their friends and ambassadors around the city that centre around a love of being toasty and looking good. No mangy, moth-eaten vintage fur coats here.
HEATTECH clothing is something special. It’s been developed by UNIQLO in conjunction with world class textile manufacturer Toray. This stuff is basically what we want to be wearing all winter so that tights under jeans and sweating buckets in huge, cumbersome jumpers can become a thing of the past. Over 10,000 samples were created before the final composition for HEATTECH material was finally agreed upon. A cutting edge fabric and a cosy look at the future of fashion, it takes body heat and stores it in pockets of air within the material to keep the wearer warm and with garments starting at 0.55mm thick, it’s certainly not bulky. The beauty of HEATTECH clothing is that it can be worn for just about anything; winter sports, a walk to the shops, or just to work to stave off arctic temperatures in your weird fridge-like office.
UNIQLO believe that everyone in London can benefit from owning an item of HEATTECH clothing so they’ve teamed up with a great bunch of organisations to offer some free garms at a selection of events this month. Every one of these ambassadors has roadtested HEATTECH in their own distinctive way and documented how they’ve worn the new super fabric. Whether you’re a cycling-fiend, a pizza freak, style afficianado, fan of sports and the brisk outdoors, an art hound, graffiti fan, or interior design and gardening enthusiast, or just about anything else for that matter, there’ll be an event for you or near to you, where you can pick up a free HEATTECH piece in November. UNIQLO are holding their events in collaboration with the awesome Graffiti Life, expert Pizza Pilgrims, ever-lovely guerilla gardeners The Pothole Gardener and cycling institution Fixed Gear London. Yesterday’s Pizza Pilgrims session on Leather Lane was a cosy, cheesy (in the most delicious sense of the word) and stylish extravaganza. Check out the listings below and head along to one of these upcoming events, or pop into the stores for a chat, and pick up something to keep you effortlessly warm this winter.
