ART

Jennifer Nehrbass

Jennifer Nehrbass is an incredible American artist whose vibrant paintings feature intrepid explorers and vintage-esque beauties looking slightly perturbed. Sections of her abstract creations are sometimes fantastical and surreal. Hyperreal elements then weave through each painting like glaring snippets of photograph. Her attention to detail and use of colour is wonderful and sets these zinging contrasts in good stead. An innovative mix of scenic landscapes, pop art and portraiture, there is an unsettling sense of intrigue and voyuerism running though her work.

A journey through personal emotions and physical terrain, Jennifer’s work examines hardship, awkwardness, aggressiveness and simultaneously, a peaceful sense of the natural self. She says that her paintings explore hidden desires and things that are forbidden and obscured. Based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, yes that’s right, the home of Walter White, it’s no surprise that this artist has been featured by a host excellent publications, owing to her keen eye, expert abstract treatment of sensitive subject matter and seemingly untameable imagination.
