London based artist, Alan Coulson’s paintings are vibrant, honest and entirely captivating. Having completed a foundation in art and design, Alan continued to paint, instructing himself on new techniques and perfecting his distinctive photo-real style. A natural talent with a keen eye for the sublime, his work has been shown at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition in for three consecutive years.
His striking paintings of friends and family members distill a wonderful sense of individual character, producing a colourful tonic, equal parts skill and passion, that is oh so good for the soul. It’s difficult to believe that his works are comprised of pencil and paint in that they possess the minute, somewhat haunting detail and vibrancy of photoshopped snapshots taken with a digital camera. My personal favourite is ‘Laytoyah’, a gorgeous painting of a close friend, that buzzes with a superb, magnetic energy.
