Nathan James

Nathan James, a name that’s been flitting around the bloggosphere in recent months – with good reason, is a London based artist whose paintings are a grizzly mark on the modern portraiture scene. Described as grotesque, revolting, ‘hall of mirrors caricatures’, Nathan’s warped, pop art-esque appropriations of familiar faces offer an unsettling cartoonish aesthetic, an ideal vibe for fans of a bleak narrative, grit lit, garish pop and psychedelia.

James focuses on the lives and worlds of the underclass, failures, perverts and slackers, rather than beautiful, successful people.’

A painterly talent and bizarre entertainer, Nathan’s paintings are witty, gruesome and rife with smart pop-culture references. A trippy vision of classic romance, his new exhibition, aptly titled Creepshow is now showing at the Cob Gallery in Camden.
