The oh-so-prestigious title of this week’s ‘YGT Favourite’ sits firmly with Carly Waito. The Toronto-based artist’s hyper-realist paintings of shining minerals and gemstones are an example of some totally unpretentious, stand-out work.
Themes of a great sense of natural wonder, geology, chemical curiosity and geometry are the axis of Carly’s paintings.
On first glance, the rich clumps of quartz and amethyst pictured on her blog look like photographs of an extensive collection of semi-precious stones. A lovely mix of methodology and magic, these oil paintings are intensely lovely.
