“AN EXERCISE IN YOUTHFUL BLASPHEMY”

YOUNG GOLD TEETH loves this featured piece from the LCC show by Alex May Hughes. It plays with ideas from H.G.Wells’ The Island of Dr Moreau. While emulating the typographic style of Victorian glass and gold paintwork, it plays up to the idea of the commercial typography-boom vs. the trials and tribulations of the modern artist, in reference to the novel. This mirror-piece belongs to a whole series of typography based work based on Dr. Moreau. The project is sensationally fresh and these mirrors are the perfect base for a collection of works based on the layered ironies of contemporary art in relation to themes of classic literature.
